About Us

How did this come about? Strictly because of a casual comment by one of our Woolen Willow customers who asked "Why isn't there a magazine focused on primitive quilts & projects?"

Aha! The light bulb came on and in 2010, sisters Gretchen Smith, Jeni Gaston, and Judy Williamson launched into high gear to produce “Primitive Quilts and Projects,” dedicated to the primitive quilter, rug hooker, and stitcher. Our debut issue, “Summer 2011,” hit the scene in April 2011 and sold out in a matter of months. Since then we’ve enjoyed producing a new issue each quarter, while making new friends along the way.

We think you'll love the look and feel of our magazines...the projects are submitted from some of the most admired designers in the primitive fiber arts world. Each issue offers must-make projects, inspiring show and tell, a focus on charitable causes, and a fun advice column.

Good Harbor Media acquired Primitive Quilts and Projects in 2019. Judy is still a part of the team, producing the magazine and preserving the original look and feel. And Jeni and Gretchen are always a phone call or visit away, any time Judy needs a bit of sisterly help :)

We invite your questions, comments and submissions at any time. This is a fun journey and we are so happy to be taking it with you!
