Macular Degeneration Quilt Raffle

Macular Degeneration Quilt Raffle

Sep 27th 2016

If you’ve been reading Primitive Quilts and Projects for any length of time, you’ve most likely developed an affection for our mom, Mary Falcsik, and learned that her vision has been on the decline due to age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Mom’s sister, Judy, also has AMD, and our sister, Sally, recently learned that she is in the early stages of the disease. It seems every day we learn that someone else we know, or a parent of someone we know has developed it. In fact, over 12 million people are affected by AMD, and a new case is diagnosed every three minutes in the United States.

We have decided to raise money for the Macular Degeneration Foundation which is dedicated to those who have or will develop macular degeneration. It is a 501c3 tax-exempt charitable medical research and educational foundation, which funds promising scientific studies designed to find a cure for macular degeneration, inhibit its progression, and restore the vision. It also provides financial support to those coping with the challenges of living with the loss of their central vision.

For our fund raiser, Jeni designed and pieced the quilt top pictured here. Our cousin, Jill, will quilt it in honor of her mom, our Aunt Judy. We will raffle off the quilt and also sell patterns for it so you can make it yourself. The raffle tickets and patterns will be sold on our website, or by phone - available October 7th!
