Free-Motion While Peddling (not running with scissors)

I recently met a talented artist exploring unusual artistic expression methods. While shopping with a friend one morning at the Farmers’ market in Elkins, West Virginia, I noticed a gal sitting backwards on a bicycle stitching on a sewing machine—not something one encounters every day.

Her name is Nevada Tribble, a native of our lovely mountain town. She makes paper from natural materials (e.g., water from a river), then illustrates her surroundings, impressions, and memories on this unique paper by way of free-motion stitching on her bicycle-powered vintage Kenmore sewing machine.

I thought you’d be interested in her work, as she—like us—expresses the happenings of her life using needle and thread.

Be sure to visit her Nevada Tribble Website and Instagram pages to enjoy her work.

Here is a Nevada Tribble video that eloquently explains what Nevada does.

Here is an impromptu interview I had with Nevada that day.
